India Post GDS Recruitment 2026
India Post has released the official notification (No. 17-37/2025-GDS) for 28,740 Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts including Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak across all postal circles in India. This is a merit-based recruitment with no written exam — selection is based entirely on 10th standard marks. Apply online from 31 January to 16 February 2026.

Selection Process
There is no written examination for GDS recruitment. Selection is purely merit-based:
- Merit List Preparation — Based on 10th standard marks converted to percentage (calculated up to 4 decimal places).
- Document Verification — Shortlisted candidates will be called for verification at their respective Postal Division. Intimation will be sent via SMS/Email.

Additional benefits include Dearness Allowance, GDS Gratuity, Service Discharge Benefit Scheme, and Space Money for BPM. The engagement is for a fixed tenure up to 65 years of age, with the possibility of regularization and promotion based on performance.
Post-wise Work Profile
Branch Postmaster (BPM) heads the Gramin Dak Seva Branch Office, managing daily postal operations, IPPB banking transactions, marketing postal products and government schemes, and maintaining office records.
Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) assists the BPM with counter duties, Customer Service Centre operations, stamp/stationery sales, doorstep mail delivery, and takes over BPM duties in their absence.
Dak Sevak works in Sub or Head Post Offices, handling receipt, dispatch, and sorting of mailbags, doorstep delivery, IPPB transactions, and may also be assigned to Railway Mail Service sorting offices.
