CBT 1 is a screening test only. Candidates who clear the cut-off will be called for CBT 2 (175 questions, 2.5 hours) which has two parts: Part A (100 questions — Maths, Reasoning, Basic Science & Engineering) determines the merit, and Part B (75 questions — Trade-specific) is qualifying with a 35% minimum. Those who clear CBT 2 face the CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test) — a psychometric test where you need a minimum T-score of 42 in each battery. Final selection is followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination.

Career Path: ALP → Senior ALP (2–3 years) → Loco Pilot (Shunting) → LP (Goods) → LP (Passenger) → LP (Mail/Express) → Loco Inspector / Chief Loco Inspector.

Salary: Level 2 — ₹19,900 to ₹63,200 (7th Pay Commission) plus DA, HRA, Running Allowance (KMA), Night Duty Allowance, free medical, and railway passes.
