Exam Day Guidelines

What to Carry

  • Printed admit card (mandatory)
  • Valid Photo ID in original (Aadhaar, Passport, PAN, Voter ID, or Driving License)
  • One passport-size photograph (same as uploaded in application)
  • Transparent water bottle
  • PwBD certificate and scribe documents (if applicable)

What NOT to Carry

  • Mobile phones, smartwatches, or any electronic gadgets
  • Calculators, books, notes, or study material
  • Bags, wallets, or pouches
  • Bluetooth devices, earphones, or headphones
  • Any metallic items that may cause issues during frisking

Reporting & Entry

  • Arrive at least 60 minutes before your shift time
  • Gates close 30 minutes before the exam — no entry after that
  • Expect biometric verification and frisking at the centre
  • Rough sheets will be provided inside the exam hall
💡
Important: RRB conducts exams in multiple shifts. Your shift time is printed on the admit card — do not confuse it with another candidate's timing. Report strictly as per YOUR admit card.

Brief Exam Pattern

Detail Grade I (Signal) Grade III
Total Questions 100 100
Total Marks 100 100
Duration 90 Minutes 90 Minutes
Negative Marking 1/3 mark per wrong answer 1/3 mark per wrong answer

Subject-Wise Breakup

Grade I (Signal):

Grade III:

💡
Tip: With 1/3 negative marking, avoid blind guessing. For Grade III, General Science alone carries 40 questions — if you're strong in science, focus there to maximize your score. For Grade I, Basic Science & Engineering (35 questions) is your highest-weightage section.

What Happens After the Exam?

After the CBT, RRB will release the answer key followed by the result. Candidates who qualify the CBT will be called for Document Verification and then Medical Examination. There is no second-stage exam for Technician posts — the CBT score directly determines your merit.
